When we lived in Belgium, you couldn't get Ranch dressing unless you went to the "American Store." Well, my sister-in-law has a great homemade ranch dressing that I use and everyone likes.
1 Cup Mayonnaise (must be Mayo)
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1 tsp. Onion Powder
1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp. Black Pepper
1/8 tsp. Salt
2 tbs. of dry Parsley crumbled
Whisk everything together and refrigerate.
Tastes great!

Easy Cheesy Fries for the kids
Hello everyone!
This is my first posting for H8 to Cook. As my friends and family know, I would rather gnaw my arm off and serve it for dinner than cook, but being that there are certain rules I must follow in polite society, I have had to find other things to cook or bake that will make my kids happy. I try to follow recipes and do okay, but have found that I can improvise better. In some of my recipes, there aren't set amounts of ingredients because it depends on different things. I think that when in the kitchen, guessing works just as good.
Living in Singapore, a treat for us is to go to Chili's. It is extremely expensive, but well worth it. We discovered their "Texas Cheese Fries" and I asked about it so that I could make it. The kids love it, and while you may not want to make it all the time (even though my kids want me to) it is really good and easy to do. I hope you enjoy!!
Cheesy Fries with Jalapeno Ranch Dressing
Frozen fries (amount depends on how many you are serving!))
Lots of grated cheddar and swiss cheeses (I use Mozzarella if I can't find Swiss here) and really, is there ever too much cheese on anything?
Bacon or bacon bits
Jar or can of jalapenos
Ranch dressing
1. Prepare fries according to directions. Deep-frying is better than baking but you decide.
2. In the meantime, fry bacon or bits and make them crumbly.
3. Place fries on platter and top with grated cheeses.
4. Microwave for 2-3 minutes to melt cheese.
5. Top with a jalapenos and bacon bits.
6. In a small dish, add ranch dressing and some juice from the jalapeno jar. Mix well.
7. Serve the fries with dressing and watch the kids enjoy. (No, eat with them!)
